Not just a walk in the woods.

There are many programs that teach wilderness skills and get people more connected with the outdoors. I think any amount of time and experience in nature is a positive thing, regardless of what you’re doing and how you’re guided. However, wilderness programs with Back to the Earth create meaningful connections based on a lifetime of learning.

Meet Justin Sutera

As a wilderness professional who has spent the majority of my life dedicated to nature education and wilderness living skills, I am proud to be the lead instructor for Back to the Earth programs. I meet each person where they are at, connect with them as individuals, and help them learn new skills to develop deep connections with the Earth. I care deeply about the mission of this school, and go above and beyond to deliver meaningful mentoring and teaching to every student I work with.

Remembering Our Connection to Nature

Back to the Earth Wilderness Programs are thoughtfully designed to provide opportunities to connect more deeply to the natural world, to fellow humans, and to themselves. These connections are cultivated both internally and externally through our relationships and experiences in the woods.

It is our birthright to have a sense of place within ourselves and within the natural world. It is my firm belief that cultivating wilderness skills and connection with nature helps us develop that connective place for ourselves – a place of belonging, support and fulfillment.
